Walk of Life, Day 15 – August 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.

A man has joy by the answer of his mouth,
And a word spoken in due season, how good it is! – Proverbs 15:23

Our nation India celebrates its 74th Independence day. Only after becoming independent, the fundamental rights were framed. As we are aware there are six fundamental rights and they are
1.Right to Equality

2.Right to Freedom

3.Right against Exploitation

4.Right to Freedom of Religion

5.Cultural and Educational Rights

6.Right to Constitutional Remedies.

This Right to freedom again has few rights within it and they are

1.Freedom of speech

2.Freedom of expression

3. Freedom of assembly without arms

4. Freedom of association

5. Freedom to practice any profession

6. Freedom to reside in any part of the country.

This freedom of speech gives us the permission to talk, to express, to share our thoughts, ideas, feelings and emotions either to a single person or to groups of people.

As believers, as disciples of Christ, as the doers of the Bible, the importance of using the tongue in the right way is theoretically known. In theory everyone will receive full marks but practically I leave it to every individual to assess marks for themselves.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit – Proverbs 18:21

In the multitude of words sin is not lacking,
But he who restrains his lips is wise – Proverbs 10:19

For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. – 1 Peter 3:10

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. – Colossians 4:6

And there are many verses to meditate on the importance of using our tongue efficiently written by King Solomon, King David and also in the new testament apostle James and other writers.

The words of our tongue prove who we are and what is our state of mind. It reflects whether we are optimistic or pessimistic, literate or illiterate, encourager or a discourager, wise or foolish, approachable or unapproachable and to be reflected with the better ones, our tongue can be trained with proper practice and self control.

In these days of utter discouragement and depression, desperation for good news and encouragement is eagerly longed. The statistics on suicides is on the higher side during these days of pandemic. Just like the disease itself, without any difference between the rich and the poor, the young and the old, the married and the single, the man and the woman, with a job and without a job and the list goes on.

On this day of independence, being granted with the freedom of speech, may our Almighty Father, the Creator who created the whole world with His word help us to speak the right words of salvation and may we ask Him to fill us with His wisdom so that we will have the exact and right words to talk so that the listeners will be comforted, encouraged, directed and above all saved from the eternal hell fire.
