Walk Of Life – Day 16 April 2022 – Thoughts on The Resurrection of Jesus Christ

“A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.” – John 16:16

Death is an inevitable event which brings an end to God breathed life in a human being. Every other living organisms have to face death making it nonexistent. It is a painful process for those who lose their loved ones, to not see, feel or talk to them again brings great sorrow to one’s heart. One such incident happened when Lord Jesus was alive. A family friend, Lazarus died due to sickness and Lord Jesus went to visit the grieving family. When he saw Martha, Mary and others crying he was deeply moved and troubled in spirit and he wept with them.

The goal of every human being is to work and toil to become rich, enjoy and live a comfortable life. Lord Jesus too lived on earth, unlike us he was not born in sin but was born through the Holy Spirit with a specific purpose to do God’s will in life and in death. He called his disciples friends and he shared what His father’s plans were about the future. Lord Jesus predicts his death three times before his death so that the disciples believe when it happens.

  • First in Mark 8: 31 “And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.”
  • Second in Mark 9: 31 “for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him.  And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
  • Thirdly in Mark 10: 32-34 “And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will  be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death  and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And  they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”

The disciples were afraid to ask Lord Jesus what he meant every time he said “after three days he will rise.” Lord Jesus death brought about a mixed feeling among the people in Jerusalem.

  • The Disciples were heart broken, scattered and feared that the officials would arrest them. Yet some other disciples who thought that Lord Jesus would redeem Israel from Roman rule were dismayed. Apart from John none were there when Christ died on the cross.
  • The Women – Mary mother of Jesus Christ, Mary mother of James and Joses, Mary wife of Clopas, Salome mother of Zebedee’s sons, Mary Magdalene were all crying at the cross and were in great pain after his death.
  • The High Priest and the Pharisees were enjoying the victory as their plot to kill Lord Jesus had succeeded.
  • For Roman soldiers, He was just another criminal they crucified at the cross.
  • The Bystanders were probably talking how Lord Jesus did miracles, healed the lame and blind, raised a dead man but was not able to save himself.

When this was the situation in Jerusalem, there was great rush in heaven among the heavenly hosts because though it was a painful process through death Jesus Christ had finished the work and destroyed the one who has power over death, that is, the Devil. All angels were waiting to know who will get an opportunity to tell the good news of Christ resurrection which would take place the next day.

The question now for Christian believers is where do we stand this day? Do we remember Christ’s death just once a year? Is it just a day where we wait to attend Easter celebration in the church or do we truly understand what Christ did for us at the cross of Calvary. For he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53: 12

So let us do our preparation this day to tell about our Resurrected Lord to the world just as the angelic hosts were preparing themselves to give the good news just one time on the day of resurrection.
