Walk Of Life – Day 16, April 2023 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms
Psalm 149 – Glory Of All His Faithful People
This is the fourth in the series of Halleluiah psalm in the Book of Psalm. After praising God for deliverance in times of trouble, rebuilding the ruins of Jerusalem, the psalmist appealed all creation to praise his name. Now he is addressing specifically to the chosen people to praise him with a new song in the assembly of the saints. Just as God’s manifestations is ever new, his mercies are new every morning and his deliverances are new in every night of sorrow, so should our gratitude and thanksgivings be new also. Many are the reason to worship, but three are specified by the psalmist here. First, He is your Creator, second, He is your King and third, He has become your Salvation.
- High Praises of God be in their Mouth – Worship and prayer is a powerful tool in a believer’s life. Worship offered in spirit and truth by the saints is like an aroma of a pleasing sacrifice to the LORD. Previously, God gave instructions to Moses to offer a certain sacrifice which would be pleasing to the LORD. When Christ came, He died to become the ultimate sacrifice to redeem mankind from death and to establish the new covenant with his children. According to this covenant, one has to offer their bodies as living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship, Romans 12:1.
- A Two-Edged Sword in their Hand – Then God will use you mightily for his works, for He has equipped you with a double edged sword in your hands. The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitude of the heart, Hebrew 4:12. Word of God is a powerful weapon put in our hands but sadly is not used effectively by his children. One can claim the promises and fight any challenges that comes your way, may it be any financial trouble, health issues or any other matter at hand.
The psalmist here states that it is also a weapon to, “to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron, to carry out the sentence written against them. Verse 7-9.
- Power in his Word – The prophets proved the power of Word of God in the Old Testament. Take example of Elijah the prophet, who pronounced judgment to King Ahab and the priests of Baal and Asherah who mislead the people of Israel to fall prostrate to the foreign gods. He prayed that there will be no rain for three years and challenged all the false prophets at Mount Carmel, God sent fire and consumed the sacrifices that Elijah offered whereas the false prophets kept dancing and falling prostate to their gods in vain. Later he prayed for rain and God commanded the clouds to form and it rained. 1 Kings 18
Wonder why the prophets were able to use the Word of God so powerfully which we are not able to witness in this generation. Undoubtedly he lived a life holy and right in the sight of God and never wavered from following God’s commandment. God has given all his saints the same power but one can only exercise if you surrender yourself as living sacrifice to God. Then God will display marvelous acts of power through you and many will witness the power of God who alone is worthy of praise.
This is the glory of all his faithful people. Praise the LORD!! Verse 9
