Walk Of Life – Day 17, June 2022 – Thoughts From The Words Of Christ

Jesus Heals A Demon Possessed Mute (Matthew 9:32-34)

Once a man who was mute was brought to Lord Jesus. Matthew 9:32 says that his condition was caused due to demon possession. Lord Jesus’s ministry always involved teaching, driving demonic spirits followed by healing on most occasions. “And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke.” Matthew 9:33.

Demons are evil beings without a body. So, they take control of a human body to execute their evil plans. Demons make the host unclean, violent, self -destructive and afflicts physically by crippling a man, causing seizures and sickness. In this case, the demon had made the man mute. Doctors were available to treat normal sickness but there was no cure for his conditions. Most of the demon possessed were considered unclean and sent out to stay in isolated places outside the city.

As many people were suffering spiritually due to negligence by the teachers of law and physically due to the evil spirits, “Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.” Matthew 10:1. When Lord Jesus sent them out, He gave them power to drive demons first because only then people could receive healing according to their faith. So, “the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.” Luke 10:1. So they followed the Lord’s instruction and preached the message of repentance and then “the seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”” Luke 10:17.

The main work of the demons is to torment and torture the person, prevent his creation from knowing God and for those who know Christ, prevent them from serving God effectively. They entice people with occult practices, drug addiction, drinking, smoking, gambling, watching movies, impure thoughts, anger, fits of rage, hatred, envy, bitterness, pride, gossip, depression and many more. The evil spirit works in unity to find the weakest moment in a believer’s life and attacks in places where they are vulnerable. This often happens when you fail to forgive your brethren from your heart.

Romans 8:11 says that “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.”
If you need to be delivered from the evil sprit’s torment,

  • First, you need to humble yourself, be honest, confess and repent for your sins.
  • Second, you need to “rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.” 1 Peter 2:1
  • Finally, you need remember that Lord Jesus “ have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” Luke 10:19.

Therefore, “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11
