Walk Of Life – Day 17, May 2022 – Thoughts From The Words Of Christ

Jesus Raises A Widow’s Son (Luke 7:11-17)

After the Centurions visit, Lord Jesus was led by spirit to visit the town of Nain with his disciples. As He entered the town, He saw a funeral procession of a widow’s only son.

Time of Appointment
“As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.” Luke 7:12

Everything happening during Lord Jesus ministry was scheduled beforehand. During his solitary time of prayer, He would receive an appointment schedule from his Father which He kept without fail. No matter the circumstances, you are in his appointment list.

Time of Comfort
When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”” Luke 7:13

Lord Jesus saw the widow crying in pain and felt sorrowful about her loss. When God visits you in his appointed time, what will be your condition? Are you sorrowful of how your life has turned into or you live joyfully in the Lord? Although the condition of your heart may vary from time to time, remember that “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

Time of his Presence
“Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”” Luke 7:14

Whatever turmoil you might be in, when you are in God’s presence there will be stillness not only in you but your surrounding too. God showed Elijah, the prophet that his presence is not in earthquake nor in strong wind nor in fire but is in a still small voice. There will always be a stillness before He calls you just like those who were carrying the body stood still in the Lord’s presence before He called out the dead son.

Time of Restoration
The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.” Luke 7:15

D.L.Moody once had to speak for a funeral service. He studied the gospels to find what Lord Jesus spoke at a funeral but surprisingly found that every funeral He visited,  the dead were raised back to life. The Lord did this to make a point that He has the power to conquer death. When you respond to his call, you will be completely restored to your prior position.

Time of Rejoicing
They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” ” Luke 7:16

The time of mourning had turned into rejoicing for the widow. All praised God after witnessing the miracle. They acknowledged Lord Jesus as a prophet till they came to a understanding that He has the power of God in him.

Today you do not see such a miracle happening. You might wonder why? When Lord Jesus had performed these miracles He had not conquered death yet. His death and resurrection has made him victorious over death and He has promised that we will be raised too. So just as Apostle Paul says, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
