Walk of Life, Day 18 – August 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.
Proverbs 18:10 “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
A small child plays fearlessly in the presence of her parents. Whenever she sees a stranger coming towards her, she quickly runs to her parents and hides behind them. Once she reaches her parents, she forgets all the fear that she had.
This verse speaks about God’s protection for His children. In our daily spiritual walk, we come across many strange things like new doctrines, false preachers, and sometimes Satan comes to us in disguise. Our immediate step should be running to Christ for help and protection. We should run to Him or approach Him in prayer. The Lord Jesus is our safest tower where we find protection. He will guide you.
Sometimes we choose an easy alternative which takes less time and appears to be handy. During my summer vacation, we visited our grand parents who lived in a village. I was in school at that time. One day I was returning from a shop which was just few houses away from my home. I saw a man who was dressed in an unusual manner with heavy ornaments put on him. He was going door to door to take alms. I was very frightened and instead of running to my home I sat beside an old woman who was sitting by the road. After the man left, I looked at the woman and was frightened seeing her smile at me as I do not know who she was.
This is what most of us do in our spiritual life. When we come across a strange aspect, we try to deal with it using our own wisdom. We try to reason by referring to some devotional guides. These acts of ours worsen the situation. The things that occur to us are not ordinary. They are powerful and require God’s hand in dealing with them. We can not fight them with our own strength and abilities.
Remember the name of the Lord is a strong tower. There is no other safest place that a child of God can find to hide for protection. The Lord Jesus is just a prayer away. He says in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee.” Let us call unto Him and be safe.
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus,
I bring myself into your protection. Protect me from falling as a prey to the wicked Satan. Help me in the situations which are overwhelming. You are my safest place where I can find rest. In the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
