Walk of Life, Day 18- December 2020- Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs

Lord Jesus Christ – The Well Spring of Wisdom

Proverbs 18:4  The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

How pleasant it would be to talk to a person who understands our words and replies back exactly what we need!  Sensible people season their talk with grace and wisdom in it.  Their talk is not just vain talk, it is strengthening and encouraging.  Where there is the spirit of God there is liberty.  If there is strife or misunderstandings, the same gracious words are misunderstood as the evil one is on the mission of bringing up confusion.

However, man is referred to as a generic term for human beings both man and woman.  Man’s words are like deep waters very difficult to draw out and understand the meaning or sense.  Some people have a bad habit of speaking with a double heart, it displeases our Lord, few others speak to test the spirit, and few talk only to judge.  There are people who are so unreasonable when they speak, exaggerating, and saying small lies or trying to win hearts of others by praising them without any valid reason and by such vain deceit or selfish gain, the Lord is not pleased.

Lord Jesus Christ is the truth, He is righteous, He hates sin yet loves a sinner, our Lord cares, condemns, commands, comforts, convinces us with His words of wisdom and love.  Here the words or speech is related to water which is used in so many ways and has life.  Man’s words are as deep waters which cannot quench someone’s thirst or a person who has not quenched his thirst from the well-spring of wisdom cannot touch others with his speech.  A well-spring is so fresh and flowing, how refreshing it would be to get waters from such a fresh overflowing brook.

Words which are life-giving, thirst-quenching, enriching, comforting, directing, forgiving, genuine words that are tried in the furnace are overflowing in our Lord Jesus alone and it never runs dry.  A person who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ ought to have an experience of an overflowing cup and a brook.  We who are experiencing such great goodness from our Lord have no excuse other than becoming like Christ not only that but also we need to be wise enough to know the wiles of the devil.

“Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life,
Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life;
Words of life and beauty teach me faith and duty.
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life,
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.
Christ, the blessèd One, gives to all wonderful words of life;
Sinner, list to the loving call, wonderful words of life;
All so freely given, wooing us to heaven.
Sweetly echo the Gospel call, wonderful words of life;
Offer pardon and peace to all, wonderful words of life;
Jesus, only Savior, sanctify us forever.”
“Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.- John 6:68”

He is the wellspring from whom we draw our strength and refreshing. Feed on the Word of God always and you will also be speaking those beautiful words of life that will bring life and grace to the hearers.
