Walk of Life – Day 18, November 2020 – Thoughts From The Book of Proverbs

The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. Proverbs 18:4 KJV

One can be termed as good or bad, wise or foolish based on the words of his/her mouth.  Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks, judge the tree by its fruit.  When we move with a child, naturally we tend to gauge the way the child has been brought up. If a child speaks well and respectfully, the credit goes to the parents and if the child is rude and arrogant, it reflects on the parents.  Words are so powerful, it can heal a heart or break a heart; wise words can influence and inspire someone. Quotes  are nothing but words spoken by great people of faith out of their experience.

The words of a mere man has got so much of power how much more the word of God?  Hebrews 4:12 KJV “For the word of God is living and full of power, and is sharper than any two-edged sword, cutting through and making a division even of the soul and the spirit, the bones and the muscles, and quick to see the thoughts and purposes of the heart.”  He is a God of wisdom, who hung the gigantic earth and the countless stars in the empty space, He does not lie but keeps His promises.  His words are profound and full of truth, there is no harm in them,  they are words which lead to prosperity,  there is no malice in His word,  they do not change.

In this wicked world, the safest and surest words is the word of God. It is so deep and is never runs dry, it is like a flowing brook which quenches the thirsty. We need to have the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit and abundant love of Christ to speak gracious words and gentle words and kind words not only that to be wise, to answer the enemy who is trying to pull us away from the faith.

There are two things mentioned here – one is deep waters and the other is a flowing brook. The words of a wise man are as a deep well, the waters cannot be exhausted or fathomed. In the second fragment, a man’s words are called a well spring of wisdom, gushing forth from its source, the wise and understanding heart, pure, fresh, and inexhaustible. Or in other words, the words from a man’s heart are deep waters, a bubbling brook, and a fountain of wisdom. So putting one and one together…we can conclude that if we fill our hearts with God’s Word which is the wellspring of all wisdom and whenever we need to speak, we speak gracious, loving, and kind words, we would be emulating Christ. The Bible says “No man ever spoke like this man.” We need to speak words of love, of life, positive words and believe what the Bible says.
