Walk Of Life – Day 19 – February 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs – Love!

Love to hear instructions

Stop listening to instruction, my son and you will stray from the words of knowledge. Proverbs 19:27

Every machine or an equipment that we buy in the market comes with an instruction manual from the manufacturer which helps us to use the product in the right way. For example, a rice cooker manual tells us the dos and don’ts, measurement of rice and water to be added and the amount of time to cook. Not following any of the above set of instructions will upset your meal. So, if a small cookware instruction becomes so important to have a good meal. How much more caution we must exercise in following the instructions for our own life given by our Heavenly Father, The Creator of the universe.

From the Old Testament “The law of the Lord” is referred as God’s instruction. God expects us to follow the instructions given in the Bible to live a life filled with joy and peace on earth. Following them makes us wise and it will guard our life. Not following the instruction of God will lead us to failure.

Samson’s life teaches us what happens if we do not follow God’s instruction. Samson was a Nazarite, set apart for the LORD. God instructed him not to eat grape seed or fruit or any fermented drink, not to touch or eat any unclean thing and not to use any razor on his head. His parents taught him to follow God’s instructions. But as he grew older, he wandered away from it. He disobeyed and married a foreign woman, touched carcass of the lion and ate honey from it. He also got enticed with Delilah and made poor judgement in trusting her to keep the secret about his strength. This led the Philistines to shave off the seven braids of his hair which resulted in the capture of Samson.

Samson was not destined to be captured by anyone as he possessed God’s spirit and strength. He was a symbol of God’s mighty power and strength for the Israelites but after his capture, the Philistines made him the symbol of entertainment and mockery. God’s strength which Samson had while killing a ferocious lion and thousands of Philistines left him when he was blinded and chained in the prison.

This happened because Samson failed to follow God’s instruction. Finally in his misery he called on the name of the LORD who restored his strength one last time which enabled him to kill nearly three thousand men and women that day.

Like Samson if you have drifted away from following instructions, you can call on the name of the LORD before it’s too late. For he who has called us is a faithful God and he never forsakes those who put their hope in him.

“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.” 1 Peter 5:10
