Walk Of Life – Day 19 March 2022 – March With The Words Of Jesus Christ

March To Do Good Works

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

In the beginning God created heavens and earth. HE created light and separated it from darkness. Light illuminates darkness. God is light and there is no darkness in HIM. Every light created by God or man has a definite purpose. Ex: Light from the sun helps growth of all living things on earth, light from moon and stars are helpful for navigation at night. Light from the lighthouse serves as a navigational aid. A lighthouse is always located on a high place like a mountain or a tall tower so that it can signal the ships for safe passage or to indicate any danger. Just as the ships follow the light from the lighthouse, we as believers of Lord Jesus must follow the word of God which is the light of our life to navigate in this world.

Through Christ we are brought into light from darkness. We also should shine so that people around us can be drawn to Christ. We can achieve this by sharing the goodness of God through our good deeds. In the secular world, people believe good karma or good works will lead them to moksha or bring lot of material blessings from God. So, they do good works to outweigh the bad or wrong things committed by them. Today huge donations to charity are believed to make a man righteous even though he miserably sins. But Bible says “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags in the sight of God.” But when Jesus said – “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven,” what did He really meant?

A good deed is an action you take for the betterment of another person or the society. It is an act of kindness or favor shown towards the under-privileged. On one occasion, Lord Jesus through the story of “The Good Samaritan” shared to the expert in law, how loving your neighbor as yourself is a good deed which will led to eternal life. During his travels a man gets attacked by robbers and gets beaten up. A priest and a Levite passed by, but none helped him. But a Samaritan who is considered a lower class than the Levites or the priests showed pity on him, bandaged him, gave him oil and the wine. He then carried him on his donkey to an inn and paid for all his expenses to stay till he gets well. Though he will not have any honor, reward or benefit for helping the dying man on the Jericho Road, we see that he sincerely stopped to help the wounded man on his own expenses. Such is a good deed God expects from us. Sincerity with which we go to help others is what pleases God not those who do it for fame and name.

We too are like the wounded man left to die in our sins, no one to help us and pick us up and cleanse from our dirty life. God showed grace and mercy when he sent HIS only begotten son Jesus Christ to save us from our sin and eternal hellfire. He bore our sins and paid the penalty by shedding HIS precious blood on the cross of Calvary. There is no better deed than the help we received from Jesus in saving our souls from perishing. Therefore, keep your feet fitted with the readiness to share the gospel of salvation which gives hope and frees man from darkness, hardships and burdens of sin.
