Walk Of Life – Day 20, December 2020, Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs

Jesus Christ – Our Saviour

Do not say, “I will recompense evil”; Wait for the Lord, and He will save you. Proverbs 20:22

Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ entered time and history through the Incarnation. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God (Matthew 16:16), is a gift of love from the Father for the salvation of the world (John 3:16-17), the one who died for all of mankind, our “Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).

Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, fulfils Old Testament prophecy. Yeshua, his very name in Hebrew, means “the Lord Saves.” “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name in heaven given to men by which we must be saved” Acts 4:12.
As we consider Christ’s death on the cross, I think it’s important to look at the three “tenses” of salvation.

Past: First, we have been saved. We have been justified or made righteous in God’s eyes.

Present: Second, we are being saved. We are in the process of being sanctified or made more like Christ through the Holy Spirit.

Future: And we will be saved. When Christ returns, we will be glorified or made like Him. We have an eternal inheritance.

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the UNIVERSAL SAVIOUR as whoever believes on Him will be saved. He is the exclusive saviour as Salvation is only through Him and Him alone. He is not a Saviour of our own setting up, but God the everlasting Father has set Him forth as our Deliverer and Saviour, saying, “You shall call His name Jesus.”

Though, we being aliens to the common wealth of Israel, the saving hand of our Lord did not restrict to His own children but amazingly extended to reach out to you and me, o brother and sister.

The verse taken for today’s thought consoles everyone of us who seems to be perplexed with the injustice done to us by saying “Wait on the Lord, and He will save you”. There are certainly many situations and circumstances that we have come across where we wanted to take revenge or deal with the evil done to us. May it be in the place of our work or school or college or it may be even in our home or even at the place where we worship. Are you waiting for a time to take revenge with words or through actions? That is not our duty dears. It is the work of the Lord. Wait on the Lord. He will save you. He will make His face shine upon you. The Lord who remembered Leah and Hannah is still waiting to uplift you.

Remember, the Saving hand of the Lord is not shortened. If you would have gone far away from his saving grace, please take time to come back to Him. He is waiting with Outstretched arms to embrace you. Shall we all with gladness sing this hymn.

1. We have heard a joyful sound,
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Spread the gladness all around:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Bear the news to every land,
climb the steeps and cross the waves;
onward! ’tis our Lord’s command:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!

2. Waft it on the rolling tide,
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Tell to sinners far and wide,
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Sing, ye islands of the sea,
echo back, ye ocean’s caves;
earth shall keep her jubilee:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!

3. Sing above the battle’s strife,
Jesus saves, Jesus saves.
By his death and endless life,
Jesus saves. Jesus saves!
Sing it softly through the gloom,
when the heart for mercy craves;
sing in triumph o’er the tomb,
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!

4. Give the winds a mighty voice,
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Let the nations now rejoice:
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Shout salvation full and free
to every strand that ocean laves;
this our song of victory,
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
