Walk of Life, Day 20 – July 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.

Proverbs 20:29 “The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is the grey head.”

In the above verse we read about two main pillars of our society- a youngster and an old man. This verse teaches the responsibilities of a young man as well as an old man.

Young man:

Youngsters are known for their strength. They give their best in whatever task they take up. Whenever there is a physical task, we find people searching for youngsters to do it. In army, reputed companies, few government offices we see that they prefer to offer jobs to the youngsters. Their glory lies in the work they invest their strength.

Many youngsters are blessed with such tremendous strength with which they can do wonders. However, they prefer to hide their strength by escaping from the tasks assigned. In our local assemblies and workplaces we ought to invest our strength faithfully in doing the right things. God will surely bless us for our efforts in his appointed time.

There are few youngsters who do not escape but they make wrong choices. We read in Matthew 6:33 that when we first seek the kingdom of God then all the good things will follow us. Youngsters’ eyes are always upon the worldly riches, they often neglect the heavenly tasks which makes their strength and efforts go in vain.

Once the phase of youth passes away you cannot get it back. You become weak. So be careful in what you are investing your strength.

Old Man:

The grey hair on a person’s head shows that they are aging gracefully. There are few special cases where young people tend to get grey hair due to health issues which is an exemption in this context. The grey hair which crowns the head of an old man shows their experience. This experience which they have gained form past many years will enable them to guide and counsel the younger generation. Therefore, there is no need to be embarrassed that your hair is turning grey instead feel proud that you are aging gracefully.

However, the old man was once a youngster. All the experiences that an old man has is due to his deeds when he was young. So, youngsters need to be careful in their deeds as they are going to carry the fruits of them as their experience throughout their life.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,

I come as a youngster into your presence this day bringing my strength to you. Teach me to use it for your glory. Let me not invest it for vain reasons. Help me to lead a good life and carry good experiences for my future. In the mighty name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
