Walk Of Life Day 20, June 2022 – Thoughts From The Words Of Christ

Jesus Walks On Water (Matthew 14:22-23, Mark 6:45-52, John 6:16-21)

After feeding the multitude, the people wanted to make Lord Jesus king by force. So Lord Jesus told his disciples to go ahead of him to Capernaum and then He dismissed the crowd. He then went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, from the shore He saw the disciples had reached the middle of the sea and were struggling to row the boat due to heavy winds. Sea of Galilee is a freshwater lake, surrounded by hills and is prone to sudden violent storms. Some of the disciples who were fishermen knew the sea well but found it difficult to handle the storm. When Lord Jesus saw them, He started moving towards them walking on water. Looking at a figure in the dark, the disciples got scared as they thought they had seen a ghost and cried out in fear.

When Lord Jesus saw their condition, He spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Matthew11:27. As it was dark, they could not see him clearly. To be sure that it was the Lord, Peter asked to allow him to walk on water. When Lord Jesus invited him too walk on water, keeping his eyes on the Lord, he got down and started to walk on water towards Lord Jesus. But when he saw the winds, he began to fear and started sinking. He cried out to the Lord who then pulled him up. The winds died down after they entered the boat. Although the disciples had seen Lord Jesus doing many miracles, they had never acknowledged him as God. But this experience made them realize that He is the Son of God and they worshipped him for the first time.

“You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:31

Peter knew that Lord Jesus had the power of God in Him. With faith he jumped into the sea, but when he saw the winds that surrounded him, he lost focus and doubted God’s power in Christ and began to sink. Like Peter you too trust God, but when you face hard times, you tend to focus on the issue at hand and relay on your strength to solve your problems. This happens only when you give more time to the worldly affairs than spending time reading the word of God. Lack of guidance from the word will land you in a place or position where you lose God’s blessing in your life. If you are facing such situation, remember that like Peter you can turn back to God and can find strength in him again.
