Walk Of Life Day 21, June 2022 – Thoughts From The Words Of Christ

Healing at Gennesaret (Matthew 14:34-36, Mark 6:53-56)

Gennesaret is a small plain located on the west side of the Sea of Galilee between Capernaum and Magdala. After feeding the multitude with just five loaves of bread and two fishes, Lord Jesus walked on the sea of Galilee to join his disciples to preach in the town of Gennesaret. The news of a prophet who heals the sick and drives out demons had spread throughout Israel. When people saw Lord Jesus at the shore of Gennesaret, they spread the news, and many came with their sick to be healed.

They would lay the sick at the marketplaces in towns, villages or countryside so that they could just touch the edge his cloak and get healed. This belief that one could be healed by touching the Lord’s garment came because of the healing of a sick women in Capernaum. However, she was healed because of her faith that even a touch of the Lord’s garment could bring healing. It was customary for Jews not to let others touch them or not to eat from other dishes on account of ceremonial uncleanness. So, the people begged the Lord to allow them to touch at least the edge of his cloak. Seeing their faith and desire for healing the Lord allowed them to do so and all who touched were healed.

Large number of people were looking unto Lord Jesus for physical healing enabling them to have prolonged life on earth. Most of them were not able to see past their present condition to understand that He is the Messiah who was sent to save mankind from their sins. This leaves us with a question, why do you look unto Christ? Are you seeking the Lord for healing or a blessing or are you seeking the Lord to know him and have fellowship with him?

The Lord always wants his children to remember him and love him. That’s why He commanded the Israelites to make garments with tassels of blue chord so that they would look at it and remember to obey all the commands of the Lord and not prostitute themselves by chasing after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes. Numbers 15:39. In the same way “Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. So, let us look unto the Lord for the right reasons.
