Walk Of Life – Day 21, March 2021 – The C R O S S of Calvary
Stations of the Cross: Jesus faces Pilate
Mathew 27:11-14 But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent.
You did nothing wrong. There is no mistake on your part. However there is a furious mob accusing you of things you never heard before. If you have been there at some point in life, it really feels terrible to be falsely accused. And to just stand quietly and bear the accusations is really very difficult. You want to scream your head off but then…you know that’s not right! That’s where the Lord Jesus was. It really takes a lot of mental strength to stay calm in the face of being falsely accused.
He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Isaiah 53:7 Every scripture which spoke about the Lord Jesus was fulfilled. There were occasions when the Lord Jesus spoke and answered when he was questioned in the synagogue however, now is the time to remain silent standing before Pilate and the accusers.
A person having a quiet spirit can endure any amount of turmoil around. How can someone remain silent in times of false accusation? Is there any one who kept silent even to the point of death. He just did not reply or rebel or defend itself. Christ know He was in the will of His Heavenly Father. Nothing mattered more than that.
Keeping silent when accused, accepting the will of God quietly, knowing and being fully assured that you are in God’s will and you need to bear this for the Lord. That is meekness, the Lord Jesus said follow me for I am meek and lowly of heart and you shall find rest for your souls. Moses when he was accused by Miriam and Aaron just kept quiet. It was the Lord who fought for him and defended his cause. Miriam walked out a leper! Moses was known as the meekest man in all the earth.
It is very important for us as the Lord’s children to know when to keep quiet and when to speak up for the Lord. We need to follow the urging of the Spirit and be in subjection to the Lord and He will instruct us whether to speak or whether we need to be quiet. So be close to the Lord and listen to His urging and He will put His words in your mouth whenever needed.
This is what the sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength.. But you would have none of it. Isaiah 30:15
Isaiah 26:3 3You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus I sometimes have relied on the power of my words and wisdom to come out of my own situations and entanglements in life, I admit I have no wisdom. Help me to be calm in time of distress waiting for the storm to pass by, help me to gain strength by being steadfast in your love and faithfulness. The man of all wisdom and strength laid himself as a lamb before its shearers. Help me Lord to be humble and definite in following you in quietness and resting in you. In Jesus name Amen.
