Walk of Life – Day 21, September 2021, Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs – STEP IN!

STEP IN TO HEAR THE CRY OF THE POOR

Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor
Will also cry himself and not be heard. Proverbs 21:13

These are truly tough and strange times. We are hearing stories of many losing their businesses, losing their jobs, having to sell homes and gold and so many more stories of plunging into poverty from actually being quite well-to-do. So many have spent lakhs of rupees on medical expenses and are slowly recuperating, not to mention those who lost loved ones in the process.

I would classify all of them as poor, not just in wealth and belongings but also those who have gone into deep depression, not able to fathom why all this happened, those who are so saddened and grieved by the loss of loved ones that they just do not want to move on. I strongly believe, we as the children of God must step in.

Be careful to listen to the cries of loneliness, of loss, of depression, the cry of hunger, of poverty, of dire distress, the cries of children for basic needs, the cries of the aged for basic care, the cries of the underprivileged, the cries of the disabled…truly this list will go on. We have become so self-centered that we are happy if everything is well with us but Christ called us with a great purpose. If you do not listen when others cry, no one will bother when you are in distress. Do not expect help to come from where you gave it but help will surely come. What you sow you will reap. What goes around…comes around…both good and evil. As God’s children let us strive to help those in need. Let us strive to help all those struggling financially. Also help those who are struggling spiritually.

In each heart, even in that of the most corrupt and distant people, there is a hidden yearning for the light, even if it is buried under the rubble of deceit and mistakes, but there is always the thirst for truth and good which is the thirst for God. The Holy Spirit arouses this thirst. He is the living water that has shaped our dust; he is the creative breath that gave it life.

This is why the Church is sent forth to proclaim to all the Word of God, imbued with the Holy Spirit. Because the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest righteousness that can be offered to the heart of humanity which has a vital need for it, even though it does not realize this. We are called to share the good news, to search for the lost and lead them to the Good Shepherd. One day your close friends should not accuse you that you never shared the Gospel.

Love this song:

“We are a family whose hearts are blazing
So let’s raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times

Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, deceived and poor
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world”
