Walk of Life, Day 23 – September 2020, Thoughts From The Book of Proverbs
The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who begets a wise son will be glad in him.
Proverbs 23 : 24
Meditating on this verse I recollected some best memories of my childhood. I was not an intelligent and quick to respond daughter. I was careless and naïve lacking even basic common sense. Though my dad repeatedly taught me to do mathematics I will again and again make the same mistake. My dad did not give up on me. He continuously taught me not only arithmetical calculations but also trained me in all areas of my life. Each and every effort that he took in teaching me has not gone in vain. If I would mention it in writing it will really seem very silly but my dad did not ignore to correct me in that. The way I should walk, sit, dine, write, pronounce, read and even how to sleep. He never ignored to correct me. He never worried about my opinion about him. Whenever I fall down because of my presumptuous sins I have seen that my dad’s heart felt utter guilty that he will not stand before the church to minister the word till I repent over my mistakes and confess it to the Lord along with him.
I’m quite sure that now my father’s heart rejoices over me and is glad as I have embraced wisdom and righteousness by knowing and walking with the Lord.
The verse that we have taken for today’s thought insists on two things.
1. Righteousness
2. Wisdom
As parents, we desire a lot about our children. They should get the best education, must excel in all extracurricular activities and in latest innovations, they should be wealthy and healthy must get settled in a well developed country. Yes, indeed they are necessary for us to be happy about our children but greater longing and rejoicing should be that they should be righteous and wise.
1 Corinthians 1:30 says “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.”
It is only through Christ Jesus that our children can be wise and rejoice and if as a father or a mother we should rejoice over our children we must toil for it.
It’s quite a challenging task to up-bring our children in the fear of the Lord, as they are surrounded with many alluring things of the world. The concepts that we teach them is absolutely different from the world view which their friends are practicing. To rejoice over our children for their righteousness and wisdom first we should be righteous and wise.
May our righteous and wise Father, The Lord of Hosts fill us with His wisdom to bring up our children in the way He desires them to grow so that we rejoice and He is glorified.
