Walk Of Life – Day 24, December 2020 – Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs

Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds? – Proverbs 24 : 12

Reward is something that we all look for in the form of wages, recognition or appreciation. ‘Reward’ is a very attractive word. Good deeds are always rewarded. At school, college, work place, church, society everywhere reward awaits the deserving candidate, which is given recognizing his or her service or achievement. All those rewards are perishable and after a while it loses its value and the expectation towards it. But Jesus Christ is the perfect rewarder and He will surely reward us for all that we have done. The world might fail to reward us but our Rewarder Jesus Christ, will not leave us disappointed.
Following are the aspects that Jesus Christ promises to reward.

1. Matthew 6: 6 & 18 says that “The Father who sees in secret will reward you” and the notion behind that is Praying and Fasting. Both shows our dependence and reliance on God and our Lord has promised us the reward when we do so.

2. Luke 6:22 & 23 talks about bearing persecution for the name of Jesus. It seems to be backwards for us to be told to “rejoice” and “leap for joy” when we are hated for being Christians. But that is exactly what Jesus says. He knows that persecution in his name brings promised blessing and rewards and glorifies the Father. The gospel of Jesus Christ is so great that, even when we are ridiculed on earth for it, we receive reward in heaven.

3. In Luke 6:35 Jesus Christ tells us to love our enemies and He walked the talk by saying on that most crucial moment of hanging on the cross saying “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). When we love our enemies and do them good and lend to them expecting nothing in return there is a great reward of being called as the sons and daughters of the Most High God.

4. In Colossians 3:23 and 24 instructs every worker, whatever might be our work we have to work as we are working to our Lord Jesus Christ as we will receive our reward from him.

5. God deeply desires our full commitment to his truth. Jesus said He is the truth (John 14:6), so that makes sense! Our commitment and self-examination honors God and secures the reward that we will receive. We must be very much watchful to abide to the truth as Satan, the deceiver is awaiting eagerly to pull away from the truth. If we do so we are sure to lose our reward.

Isn’t it amazing that those who have surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will not only go to heaven, but will be rewarded for things that they’ve done for Christ? Hebrews 11:6 the author says “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Let us seek Him earnestly and receive the reward from Him. He weighs the hearts and keeps our soul. whatever we will do will be rewarded.

“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done” – Revelation 22:12
