Walk Of Life – Day 25, October 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 77 – Remembering God’s Mighty Works

Asaph, a great singer and musician who was also prophetic in his composition has titled this psalm to the Chief Musician, Jeduthun who was a public worship leader of choirs and musicians along with Asaph and Heman in David’s time. This was composed for temple worship or to be recited by the leader of the choir during public worship. The sons of Jeduthun were also porters or doorkeepers in the house of the Lord. (1 Chronicles 16:42)

  • Seek God till you find him – The psalmist is in some kind of deep pain and is disheartened to find God far away from him even though he believed that God has heard his prayers. He refused to be comforted by diverting his mind from his troubles to recreation, entertainment, hobbies or social gatherings. But he rather spent his days of trouble praying fervently till he found peace in God alone.
  • Be truthful about your thoughts – Asaph was so distressed that he felt that he will never see the favor or mercy of God again. He felt that God in his wrath has chosen not to fulfill his promises towards Israel. He expressed his concerns in the form of questions that believers rarely feel safe to speak about. But the tone of these questions are more towards fighting his unbelief due to lack of improvement this situation.
  • Remember what God has done for you in the past – While he was seeking God, he was reminded of the wonders and miracles by which God had saved Israel from the bondage of slavery and brought them out of Egypt. His recollection of natural elements like air, water, thunder and earth being terrified at God’s voice when He parted the Red Sea and how God lead Israel from the wilderness to the promised land gave him the assurance that God in whom he has placed his hope is faithful.

When troubles cease your world, do not let the remembrance of the comforts you have lost, make you unthankful for those that are left. God intends certain situation in your life to strengthen you, in spite of your pain and anguish. When Paul prayed three times to remove the thorn from his body, God said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9. So, shift your focus from your troubles and be confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
