Walk of Life – Day 25, September 2020 – Thoughts From The Book of Proverbs

Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the refiner – Proverbs 25 : 4

Mahabalipuram, a coastal resort town in Tamil nadu is a UNESCO world heritage site and it is widely appreciated for its monolithic rock cut sculptures. Monolithic is a single massive stone and to design it as a sculpture the sculptor uses different tools to bring the desired shape. It has to be hammered, chiseled, burnt, broken and all the process are quite painful to the rock but if that single piece of rock should gain attraction and be useful the sculptor will certainly follow all these hard steps.

It’s the same with silver or gold as well. The process that the goldsmith or the silver smith applies to bring out a beautiful jewelry is really throbbing. The particular piece of gold or silver remains as ordinary as another metal until the dross is taken away and it is refined.

So are we, dear brothers and sisters. The dross that has covered our life, makes us unavailable to be used by our Lord. It might be the dross in our words, our actions and our thoughts.

They have to be refined every day. The psalmist prays in Psalm 19:14 “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” When our words and thoughts are refined our actions becomes refined too. They should be our daily practice. There is no way that a believer can say I’m completely sanctifies and refined.

The virgins who were brought into the palace of king Ahasuerus were already fair and young but Hegai, the keeper of all the women was instructed to make the women much prettier in order to be there before the king. Do you know what the Bible says in chapter two verse nine? It says that right away Esther pleased Hegai, and she obtained kindness of him. He didn’t waste any time at all. He quickly gave her the things she needed to get ready to see the King. Those things were seven maidens to help her, and all the other things that young women need. Also she had to have two very important things. Without these things, there would be no coming before the king. These two things were oil of myrrh, and sweet odours. The women had to go through a process called, purification.

Though Esther obtained favour in the eyes of Hegai and even though she was fair, young and pretty she had to go through this process of purification.

Dearly beloved, we have obtained favour in the eyes of our Lord and that’s why we have been saved. But there is a day where we have to meet the king. The Holy Spirit who indwells within us aids us to be purified. Let us examine ourselves today, about the dross that has been yet not removed. This process of purification will convict us from within, for each and every task that we do which, displeases our Lord.

what a joy it will be on that day, When we meet our king – our Groom in the mid air, He smiles at us and say I’m impressed with your beauty and you smell great!
