Walk of Life, Day 26 – August 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.

As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness. Proverbs 26:11

It feels so awkward to read this verse,  but it’s a bitter fact, a fool is compared to a dog that returns to its own vomit. As disgusting as it may sound, it is strange that we do not have the same contempt towards sin when we tend to return to do the same mistake again and again.

The Bible clearly says that we are not supposed to move backwards but to move forward,  not to look back and become a pillar of salt like Lot’s wife, but move ahead like Deborah.  We are commanded not to go back as the person in the New Testament who kept all the law but could not leave it and follow Christ, but went back to his property.  It is time to ponder. What are we going back for ?  Why are we looking back to the things that we left behind?  Is the Lord pleased?  Should you be a fool and lose the presence of your Savior in your life for a temporary happiness?

The addictions like too much time on social media, wrong kind of friends, and worldly passions and desires may give you momentary happiness but it rots your soul and spirit and you are robbed of your spiritual joy and blessings.  Too much time with the world will cause the world to slowly enter into your life and draw you slowly away from the Lord. Always remember the ship sails in the sea but the minute even a little water enters the ship, disaster is at the door. The ship will begin to sink. We are in this world but the minute the world enters us, spiritually we begin sinking in sin.

A person who is born again hates sin; they never like to go back to their sinful ways and grieve the Lord Jesus. As a person matures in faith, his love for sin gradually decreases, as his love for the Lord increases.  Such a person is faithful even in the little things that he is given. The hallmark of a true Christian is the decreasing presence of sin in his life.  A truly repentant Christian is busy moving forward in listening to the voice of God and marching forward with a clear conscience by the grace of God, as a good man’s steps are ordered by the Lord. Ultimately our aim is to become perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect.

Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62 (NIV)

It is very easy to be disappointed by things happening around us. We tend to question God and wonder why whatever is happening is happening. The devil begins to convince us that probably there isn’t a God and maybe he doesn’t care and slowly we begin to drift away from His presence. Never allow such thoughts in your mind. Meditate on the Word of God and always keep it very close to your heart. Hold on to the Lord no matter what,  turn towards Him in your mountains and valleys because He is such a faithful friend.  Honor God and He will honor you.  Wait at the Lord’s feet  as He makes everything beautiful in His time.
