Walk Of Life – Day 26, August 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 43 – Hope to Worship On The Holy Hill

This psalm is either a part of the previous one or is closely connected with it. In fact, in a number of ancient Hebrew manuscripts, Psalm 42 and Psalm 43 are joined together as one. Here the psalmist hope that one day he will return to Jerusalem and worship God in his sanctuary.

Plea against ungodly nation

  • The psalmist had hope of God’s redemption, but it had not come yet. But he would not surrender to his feelings of depression and discouragement instead he laid it all down at the feet of God. In Psalms 42, the psalmist was pleading against ungodly people but here he is pleading against the whole nation who are mocking God’s people for their faith. The psalmist mourns and prays to receive his light and faithful care to lead him back to the holy mountain where he could praise God in his sanctuary.

Worship God in his sanctuary

Was God really away from the psalmist?

  • Psalms 145:18 says that “The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” But the psalmist desperately wanted to go to the tabernacle. This helps us to understand how important it is to go to the place of worship where all God’s children gather as one body in Christ. Temple of God, a church or a synagogue, “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” says Matthew18:19–20. The spirit of God ministers to his people in a special way in his sanctuary. So, do not miss going to your place of worship.
  • The psalmist needed to go to the temple to offer the sacrifices according to the law, but you are freed from the Law because of Christ. Yet you need to go to your place of worship to offer a sacrifice of praise by words and songs to your God. For this is what your God desires from you.

At the end of the psalm, none of the circumstances of the psalmist had changed but only his attitude. All the despair in his heart turned into joy when God restored the hope that was lost in the psalmist heart.
