Walk Of Life – Day 26, July 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 21 – The Joyful King

This psalm seems to appear to be the result of the prayer of the congregation made on behalf of the king. Previously people prayed that the desires of the king be fulfilled and that he should be victorious in battle. Now they are thanking and blessing Jehovah for fulfilling his desires and giving their king great success in all the battles.

The strength and salvation of God came to David in response to both the desire of his heart and his spoken prayers. Even though it took many long years from the time of his anointing for the throne, God’s goodness always went before him till He put a crown on David’s head who waited upon God’s perfect timing. In the life-and-death dangers of every battle, David was protected by God who granted him life and length of days. The people would raise their banners and exalt their King for all the victories, but David declared that this glory, this honour, this majesty he enjoyed came from God and not from himself. David rejoiced over God’s presence in his life which led to his gladness and eternal blessing.

David also recognized that even though he was victorious in battle, God was not done finding and judging his enemies. When God acts in anger, the enemies of His people will run for their lives till they are completely destroyed. David’s words also point out to the ultimate judgement of the wicked people and the evil one who rules the world. On the day of judgement the evil one will be swallowed up in the lake of burning sulphur with all his false prophets till they are wiped off from the face of the earth.

Then there will be only rejoicing in the Holy City, the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. God will dwell with his people and there will be no need to offer any more prayers as there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. What a victory that would be for his blood bought children to inherit the kingdom of heaven. The King of Heaven is looking forward for this joyous moment, are you?
