Walk of Life – Day 28 – January 2022 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs – Enter!

Enter with Hard Work

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. Proverbs 28: 25

There is no substitute for hard work, they say. The Word of God always encourages us to work hard and not to be lazy. Tilling the land is really hard work. If you watch a farmer on the fields, you will know how tough it is to work all day in the blazing sun. The land has to be tilled well to bear fruit. A farmer cannot be very casual and not till his land and at the same time expect a huge harvest. It will never happen. We all work hard in our secular work. We spend hours and hours studying to write our exams. We work day and night in our offices to secure our salaries, our careers, and save a lot of money and be rich and prosperous.

The Bible says “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed.” Many a times, when I listen to sermons, I wonder if we really study the Word of God. Would you walk into an office meeting where you need to present on a specific topic without any preparation whatsoever? You would spend hours and days preparing a presentation and rehearse it several times so that it comes out perfect. You do it to please your earthly boss and make him/her inspired to reward you in one way or another. Do we really spend time on our knees every day to receive from the Lord? Unless our hearts are filled with God’s Word, we cannot be channels of blessing to those around us. Do we do the work of the Lord with all sincerity and honesty? Do we give it our best and make sure the Lord is pleased with our work. It may be anything that you do for the Lord, do it as best as you can.

The Lord loves hardworking people. He tells us to learn from the ant. The horse is prepared for the battle, but victory is of the Lord. It is not our hard work that will bring us success, it is only the Lord’s blessing but that does not mean we can be lazy and expect everything good to happen to us. You do your part, the Lord will do His. Let us determine this year to have excellence in all that we do. It may be something as simple as household chores to preaching, teaching, and serving in God’s house; all that you do, give it your best.

Dear Lord help me to work hard and use my skills and talents for Your glory. Help me to live for you and you alone. Both in my secular work and in thy work, may I exhibit utmost sincerity.
