Walk Of Life – Day 29, January 2023 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 122 – Jerusalem, City of God

This Song of Ascents is composed by David who wrote about Jeruselam as it was in his days and what it will be in the future days. Temple was not constructed then nor did he have to travel for a pilgrimage a great distance as the tabernacle was situated in the City of David. But he made extensive plans and preparation for his son Solomon to build it (1 Chronicles 22: 5). David wrote this psalm keeping in mind the pilgrims who would travel to Jerusalem to worship in the Temple of God in the future.

  • At the Gates of Jeruselam – It is a beautiful city constructed by King David in a uniform way, built closely to support and strengthen the other building. At the gates of Jerusalem one can see how it represents the love of God which binds his children together.
  • Enter the Gates of Jerusalem – It is a Holy City where the elect only will enter, those who keep their commandment of the LORD.
  • Worship within the Gates of Jerusalem – It is Royal City, a place where the Ark of the Covenant symbolizing God’s power and judgement is kept. There in front of it all the gathered tribes of Israel will praise the Almighty.
  • Peace for Jerusalem – It is a Peaceful City where the LORD chose to dwell among his children. From the mercy seat, He would talk to the priests and guide Israel towards prosperity, provided justice and mercy is maintained in the courts.

Just like David who foresaw how the city would be, Lord Jesus has revealed to Apostle John how New Jerusalem would be. A Holy City coming down out of heaven from God prepared as a bride beautifully for her husband.  Those who have lived according to God’s commandment and have overcome the world will reach the gates and enter it. One must be cleansed of their sins in Christ, to be saved from the second death to enter the gates. Within is where one can worship the LORD who will dwell in the city with his children.  Revelation 21

Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Therefore, live by God’s Word in anticipation that you may enter and rejoice in his holy presence.
