Walk of Life – Day 3 – November 2020- Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.
Proverbs 3:26 “For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”
No wonder that this pandemic has been teaching us many important lessons of life. This has been serving as a trial for our faith in the Lord. During this pandemic, the frontline workers have been doing their best. Regardless of their own lives, they have been stepping forward for the wellness of public. I have heard about a nurse who works in a reputed government hospital. They are advised to use PPE kits while they are on duty. Though they took all the measures, many of the nurses who worked along with her were infected. At that time, the prayer of that woman was,” Lord, my confidence is not in this PPE kit. My confidence is in you.”
Can you boldly say today that your confidence is in the LORD? If you really say that, then you are truly a fearless person living in this world. We tend to fear every small thing. It is because we do not trust in the LORD and His promises. We look at the roaring sea and the boisterous winds, but fail to look at Jesus who makes us walk over the troubles of this life.
When we depend on the things that perish, fear attacks us as soon as our support goes missing. In the scriptures we read about many people who had the Lord as their confidence, thereby they could stand firm without falling.
King Hezekiah in 2 Chronicles 32:8 says,” but with us is the LORD our GOD to help us and to fight our battles.” And King David refused to brace himself with the war equipment, instead he stepped forward to fight in the strength of the Lord against Goliath. The only weapon he took along with him and used to bring Goliath to the ground was the name of the Living God. In the same way, when Daniel he was being thrown into the den of lions, his confidence was in the Living God that he served.
My dear friend, where is your confidence? Is your confidence in the materialistic things, or in the things that will soon perish, leaving you alone? The Lord Jesus should be our confidence. No virus can enter your body without God permitting it. It is God who allows everything to happen within and around you.
The Lord Jesus should be our role model, our confidence. When we look at people, even though they are exceptionally good, we might get disturbed in our faith. So, never take any person to be your confidence.
Once there lived a couple who were blessed with a boy after many years of their marriage. However, their joy did not last for very long. One of the soothsayers told his parents that the boy has a danger from water. The parents were very careful with the child. They never took him to any water-based park, swimming pool, or beach. They raised him completely away from water bodies. Their fear was that their boy would die drowning in water. One day they received a call from their relatives who asked them to visit them urgently. The parents were worried because their relatives stayed near a river. They made all arrangements for their son to stay at home and left to meet their relatives. They were very confident that their son would be safe as they left no drop of water at home. However, when they reached home, they were shocked and devastated to see their son lying motionless on the floor. The cause of the death was that the boy had hiccups and badly needed some water to drink, but there was not a drop of water.
This is a small illustration of our confidence. Our confidence always helps us to prepare only in one dimension. However, evil takes the other road to throw us down. When we make the Lord as our confidence, then He will protect us from all directions and will never allow our foot to slip.
