Walk of Life, Day 3-September 2020-Thought from the Book of Proverbs.

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.’ – Proverbs 3:27

A very much appropriate example, to be related to this verse is Lord Jesus Christ as we read in Philippians 2 : 5-8
5. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
6. who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7. but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond servant, and coming in the likeness of men.
8. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus Christ alone has the power to save mankind from the eternal fire and destruction and at the same time there was no compulsion laid on Him to leave everything and empty Himself in order to do the good deed of redeeming humanity from destruction, but He did not withheld from doing so. When God the father laid an open question before the heavenly hosts Jesus Christ came forward and said “Here am I, Send Me.” The cost that He paid to do that good thing of giving His own life as a ransom for the sins of all is very astonishing. Being sinful in nature, the sins and atrocities that we as human beings come across is really embarrassing. How much irritation and agony it would have been for such a holy Lord to dwell among sinful men. Our Lord obliged to do so as it was in His power to act.

Jesus Christ never missed any opportunity to abstain from doing good. He healed the blind, cleansed the lepers, delivered the demonic filled persons, gave confidence to the discouraged, made people feel important, rose up the dead alive, shared the good news to the neglected and the list continues. Every man born into this world has to die one day or the other but no one has death has his/her purpose. but the purpose of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on this earth is To die for the redemption of mankind. That’s a very big and splendid deed by itself which could not be comprehended. So at least for the thirty three and half years He could have remained quiet doing nothing. That would be most difficult for Him to abstain from doing good thing.

As His disciples, having received so many good things it is our bounded duty to reciprocate it to others. As we read in the Epistle of James chapter1 verse 27 “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To visit Orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” everyone can do something good to others. It might be getting a job in the same concern for which we work, encouraging a brother or a sister who is very much disheartened, helping a friend to understand a concept, walking along with a person who has chosen a lonely path above all rescuing the perishing by sharing the good news of salvation.

let us strive to do more good in the days to come if we are already in the process of doing it. If we have not have had the concern or the burden of doing good thing so far, let us start doing it. May the lord God our Counselor, counsel us to make use of the powers that we have been blessed with to do good for others.

Amen.
