Walk of Life, Day 3 – September 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. – Proverbs 3:27
There cannot be much more apropriate example than our Lord as we read in Philippians 2 : 5-8
5. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
6. who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7. but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
8. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Jesus Christ alone has the power to save mankind from the eternal fire and destruction and at the same time there was no compulsion laid on Him to leave everything and empty Himself in order to do the good deed of redeeming humanity from destruction, but He did not withheld from doing so. When God the father laid an open question before the heavenly hosts Jesus Christ came forward and said “Here am I, Send Me.” The cost that He paid to do that good thing of giving His own life as a ransom for the sins of all is very astonishing. Being sinful in nature, the sins and atrocities that we as human beings come across is really embarrassing. How much irritation and agony it would have been for such a holy Lord to dwell among sinful men. Our Lord obliged to do so as it was in His power to act.
Jesus Christ never missed any opportunity to do any good to those who are in need. He healed the blind, cleansed the lepers, delivered the demons, encouraged the disheartened, rose up the dead alive, made the neglected feel important, cared for the widows, had compassion on everyone and the list continues. Every human being born into this world has to die one day or the other but no one comes into the world to die. Whereas the sole purpose of Jesus Christ is to die. That voluntary act of love is by itself cannot be comprehended. So till His time to die on that rugged cross he could have very well been quiet and unconcerned on people. but He didn’t do so. he did not abstain from doing good.
As the disciples of the compassionate Father, what is our role in this world. Is it not to walk in His foot steps? Are we not commanded to do good when it is in our power? It might be getting a job to the needy, making a difficult concept to be understood, helping financially, sharing our meals with those who starve, encouraging a discouraged brother or a sister and above all rescuing the perishing by sharing the good news of gospel. Apostle James very clearly in chapter 1 and verse 27 of his epistle “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit Orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
May our God, the Counselor counsel us to continue doing the good work that we have doing so far and if we would not have been concerned so long to do good let us begin doing it.
Amen.
