Walk of Life, Day 30 – August 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.
The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces. Proverbs 30:28
The spider is the one of the four things which is termed to be a little thing yet exceeding wise. Proverbs 30:24. Have you noticed spiders? They are very small creatures and they can easily be killed they are harmless except for few species and very feeble. They have got eight legs which act as hands and weave its web so skillfully. Have you ever observed the spider’s web which is woven so beautifully and skillfully. This creature neither knows any mathematics nor measurements yet it weaves its webs so well and it looks so beautiful with equal measurements or rings.
It produces fine threads to make its web. These beautiful webs are laid to catch other insects for its food. Spiders are everywhere; it lives in a hut on a tree on a rope and it skillfully weaves its thread in any place. Yesterday, I went out into the yard to dry clothes on the a string, I found a round web on the string and its threads leading to another place, I was wondering how this spider laid its web here. It is so skillful and analyzes because of its wisdom, the verse mentions it is also in kings palace.
Any form of skill is appreciated and it’s a privilege to be noticed by a king. Though its webs are destroyed often by us, it is never tired to build it again, and I have also noticed that it is very quick to escape once its web is destroyed. It rebuilds very quickly. This little insect has got its place in one of the four places for exceeding wise creatures.
What can we learn from this?
Spider taketh hold with her hands, the work of her hands has given her a place in the king’s palace as well. In this context, we can meditate on this verse we find in Proverbs 31, the phrase ‘with her hands’ is mentioned many times, and she works, creates many things, and provides food for her household.
Proverbs 31:31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Spiders use its legs as its hands and it uses them again and again tirelessly to rebuild its most neglected webs
Proverbs 31:17.. and strengtheneth her arms
Psalm 144:1 Praise the LORD, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle. We ought to draw strength from God by joining our hands in prayer and supplications.
We need to get such patience, wisdom, and skill like that of a spider which does its agile work. Exodus 17:11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. To win over the enemy and the wiles of the devil we need to keep our hands lifted high in praise and prayer without which the enemy takes precedence. We need to be skillful for the Lord, whatever we do, we need to do it skillfully, play music skillfully (Psalm 33.3), preach the Word of truth skillfully (2 Timothy 2:15), and build skillfully the ark of the tabernacle, we are the temple of God. We need to be like Bezaleel who was filled with the spirit of God, with wisdom and understanding and knowledge and all kinds of skills. Exodus 31:3 Let’s determine to give our best to the Lord, when we fail, let us have the patience like that of spider which rebuilds it’s web skillfully again, and make sure to be acceptable by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
