Walk of Life – Day 30, September 2020 – Thoughts From The Book of Proverbs
Proverbs 30:24 “There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise.”
What do we use to cut vegetables? A knife or a sword? Undoubtedly a knife. No matter how mighty, grand the sword may look and how little and weak the knife may look, still the knife is used to cut the vegetables. The above verse reminds us that wisdom has nothing to do with physical strength of a person. We read about Moses and our beloved Bro. Bakht Singh who have initially highlighted their shortcomings when God has called them to fulfill His purposes through them. Praise be to God who does not require our physical strength but needs our obedience to execute His plans and do wonders.
The four things which are mentioned in the following verses teach us four important spiritual lessons. Let us try to draw wisdom from these little beings
Ant: We read in verse 25 “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer.” The life of an ant is uncertain. Just a little drop of water could kill it. Even then it works hard to gather its food. There are few believers who are very much confident about their spiritual life and they do not consider it useful to gather the word of God. There are few others who think that overcoming life is tough and not their cup of tea. This little ant teaches us not to be overconfident and not to be discouraged.
Conies: We read in verse 26 “The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks.” Conies are weak animals. They know that they can not fight with the strong enemy. So, they make their house in the rock. We as believers are weak when we are alone. We can not fight the mighty Satan with our own strength. So, we like the conies have to make our Lord the almighty one our dwelling place.
Locusts: We read in verse 27 “The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands.” This reminds me of the words which were told by Bro. Bakht Singh which emphasize that as believers we all are equally important, necessary and precious. The locusts tell us that we need to be together in Christ as brothers and sisters in the fellowship.
Spider: We read in verse 28 “The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.” In whichever place Lord keeps you in, always remember to be available for His work. When God blesses you with a good job or family, it does not mean that you get completely devoted and involved in it detaching yourself from God’s work. Through His blessings we need to glorify Him. A spider lives in palaces as well as in small huts. In whatever place you are be available for God’s work.
Never look down upon yourself. It is true that we all are weak. When you introspect, you find only few weaknesses of yours, whereas God knows each and every weakness of yours. However, He has called you despite of knowing your weaknesses. He knows how to mold you and use you for His glory. All you have to do is just trust and obey.
