Walk of Life, Day 6 – August 2020 – Thought from the Book of Proverbs.

Proverbs 6:18-19 “An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

In Proverbs chapter 6, we read about things that God hates. There are six things that the Lord hates and there are seven things which are an abomination to him as mentioned in verse 16.

As we go through these seven things we can find two things which happen without our notice most of the times. They are an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Is it not true that a man’s safest battle ground is in his thoughts? Earlier, before knowing this fact even I had this thing within me which turned out to be an abomination to the Lord. It is true that Lord teaches us everything slowly. Just like a small child we learn in Christ, step by step. Whenever I came across a tough person, all I did was defeat them in my imaginations. All this sounds funny to me when I think of it in retrospect. I behaved childishly until I knew that God hates it and imagining in my mind to win over someone is nothing but murdering them as mentioned in the New Testament.

Your thoughts might seem to be the safest place for you because you are the king of your thoughts. You can imagine whatever you want to. You will never let others win in your thoughts, you will always win. But even your thoughts are monitored by God.There is no concession in Christ’s judgement. Lord does not say, “O my child was perfect in other things, this is the only thing he could not do. So I will forgive him.” No, our God is a God of perfection. He wants us to be perfect like him. He wants us to be whole, not half-baked.

The second one is the wicked sower. We find them in our midst without fail. Yes, there are people who take this as their duty to break relationships, even strong bonds. Their weapons are their lies and false witnesses and their aim is the ears of a person. Few days ago, I have read a quote by a God Servant who says, “Men might have itchy ears but my job is not to scratch them.” He has surely identified his purpose but there are many who still do not identify their purpose to live in this world. Until they understand it they keep searching for itchy ears and go to scratch them. It is not in our hands to change a person, God only has to do his work in that person. But we can protect our ears. Do not prepare your hearts to take the seed of discord being sown by the wicked one in you. Our hearts should be prepared to receive the word of God, the seed which yields good fruit.

Dear friend, God does hate these things. But do not be discouraged if you have these things in you. Because God loves sinners who repent and are willing to forsake their sins. If you find yourself devising wicked thoughts against your brother, stop it and submit it to the Lord. He will fill you with peace. Just remember that vengeance is of the Lord. (Romans 12:19).

Do not be in a hurry to get things done in your own way. This might lead to destruction. Wait upon the Lord and be led by the Spirit. Do not give yourself to be a false witness under any circumstances. Be careful about tale bearers as they can destroy relationships. Remember that God hates the ones who sow discord among brothers and it pains him when these brothers encourage the person who does something that God hates.

Ask God to keep you from all the things that He hates and are an abomination to Him and He will surely help you. Read the Word of God because it is the only shield that keeps us from committing mistakes and our best teacher is the Holy Spirit.
