Walk of Life – Day 6 – July 2021 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs – Be Diligent

Be diligent to follow your parents’ instructions.

Proverbs 6:20 “My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother.”

For many youngsters who were born into a Christian family, the above verse is quite familiar. Not just to the children of Christian families, but also to those who were born into the families of different faiths, this teaching to obey parents is familiar. I think you will agree to this fact that, as we start growing older till the time, we reach a certain age where we ourselves become parents, we find it difficult to accept instructions, commands from our parents.

Have you ever thought why your parents do not instruct or command you according to their generation rules? We must have told, “What do you know about present trend?” Many of us tend to treat our parents as the people of stone age when it comes to their thoughts. Well, cannot blame you completely, because the fast-changing world shares the larger portion of making you think in such a manner. Today’s trend becomes old fashion in a few days. When you start running along with the trend as long as you have strength, the instructions and commands that you get from the ones who are not at all present in the race seem outdated.

My dear friend, a day will surely come in the life of every person when he can no longer run in the race along with the changing trend. In this constantly changing world there is one thing that is not going to change at any cost, that is, the Word of God.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.” Matthew 24:35

In the verse that we read from the Proverbs, we read King Solomon write to us to keep our father’s commandments and our mother’s law. What is father’s commandment and what is mother’s law? It is the word of God. The word of God has the commandments from the Lord, which when followed will deliver you from all wickedness, and also the law that helps you stay upright in the sight of God.

Thank the Lord Jesus Christ for blessing you with godly parents who impart the law and commandments of the Lord to you for your own good. Do not be discouraged if your parents are not in a position to guide you spiritually. Our heavenly Father is able to guide you continually through His word. Stop running after this ever-changing world, one day you will lose all your strength chasing for temporal things, though you have the desire to follow the law and the commandment later, by then you would have wasted the most precious time of your life.

We all know that the living word in the Holy Bible is written way back in history, but just as we address, it is still living. The word of God, can never be ‘outdated’. Learn to carefully heed to the commandments and the law that the word of God teaches you through His people, they could be your parents, elders, pastors and friends.
