Walk Of Life – Day 7 March 2023 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms
Psalm 141 – Have A Clean Conscience
This psalm of David reveals about his tender conscience, who asked God to deal with his own sin and weakness before addressing the wicked men who fought against him. It shows that David was even more concerned about evil inside himself than he was about evil from others.
As David was successful, his counterparts were often jealous and found ways to put him down in front of King Saul. The troubles increased when King Saul himself believed these slanders and feared David would use his strength to take his kingdom. Even though Saul in his jealousy tried to kill David many times, he prayed that God would protect him from not just outside threat but also from the evil that can come from his own thoughts. This David’s way of praying is what Lord Jesus later taught, ‘Do not lead us into temptation’ recorded in Matthew 6:1.
As a believer when you walk on Godly percepts, many wicked people will discourage you and try to involve you in the filthy affairs of the world. When you refuse to sit with them or become like them, one is prone to face difficult challenges. The snare that the evildoers lay for the righteous can sometimes make you tired, anxious and also bitter towards them and your life. The way you let your mind think will soon effect your heart and evil things desired will bring forth wicked works. Unless the fountain of life is kept pure, the streams of life will soon be polluted.
It is important to read the Word and pray about your heart’s condition. You can also share with a trustworthy friend who can give you godly counsel. If you don’t do so, evil thoughts will remain in you and some day it will convert into words which you might regret later.
Therefore, in humility accept elders and God’s rebuke and do not give into the false thoughts that the evil one puts inside you. “Test everything, Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it”. 1 Thessalonians 5:21-24
