Walk Of Life, Day 9 – August 2020 – Thoughts from the Book Of Proverbs
Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. Proverbs 9:6 (KJV)
Mathew 5:22(b) says “But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.”
The Holy Bible forbids us to call anyone as fool..In the Bible there are many occasions where it mentions about fools and foolish acts for us to check ourselves if we fall into that category. In the Book of Proverbs there are many differences seen among the foolish and the wise.
Who is a fool?
A fool thinks about his own soul, makes it happy, and satisfies only its needs, a self-centered soul, Luke 12:20,21 “But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
If you think you are wise and knows everything and are better than others then Bible says let him become fool that he may be wise (1 Corinthians 3: 18)
A fool listens to no one and thinks that he is right (Proverbs 12:15)
We can see these foolish acts in Nabal when he speaks to the servants of David, (1 Samuel 10:11) And Nabal answered David’s servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master. Nabal which means fool relied on his own wisdom.
In verse 12, “I have bread and water. And I have killed some animals. But this is all for the men who are cutting the hair from my sheep. I will not give anything to men that I do not know.” Nabal provided for himself and for his servants alone did not think about David’s servants nor the request of David the king.
I feel he was rational in his thinking but our rational thinking and worldly pattern does not please God nor the people around. We need to forsake foolishness and live in the way of understanding, understanding is to leave the evil way. Abigail, who is a woman of good understanding imputed Nabal’s sin on her and pleaded David to forgive him.
We need to forsake foolishness and beg for godly wisdom and live in the way of understanding and never meddle with them. Like Abigail we may have to impute their sin on ourselves and intercede for those in need of wisdom, for forgiveness and God’s grace.
