Walk of Life – Day 9 – July 2021 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs – Be Diligent

 Be Diligent to Learn

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:9

“The capacity to learn is a gift, the ability to learn is a skill and the willingness to learn is a choice”

The day I think I know everything, that is the day I stopped learning and the day I stopped growing. And if you stop growing, you begin to rot…and that is the bitter truth. A wise man and a just man will accept instruction and will increase in learning.

I have met many people in life who think they know everything. Five minutes into any conversation about any subject, they will give you the feeling that they know everything and you know nothing. Be it religion, politics, or anything for that matter. Try explaining or try teaching them something new, the mind will be completely closed, the mind is not willing to accept any suggestions, any instructions for improvement. It is like this…If you go to a doctor and say you are completely alright, will he be able to treat you? There should always be that room for improvement, that willingness to learn, to accept correction, to confess, to repent, and to move on.

“He is still working on me to make me what I ought to be” To be molded by the potter, the clay needs to be soft, the clay needs to be pliable, the clay needs to be willing. The Lord wants us to be wise and just…to be able to accept instruction and learning. The more we accept our emptiness and tell the Lord that we need to be molded that we need to learn, the more He can mold you into His own image.

We should not be defensive when our mistakes are pointed out, if they are genuine, say sorry and move on. If you feel it is judgmental, even then just say ok and move on. Arguing or trying to prove a point helps no one. The Lord knows your heart, so quietly accept correction. Many a times you may say sorry not because someone apologized but because ultimately its between you and God. It is important to continually learn at the School of Christ. Learn humility, learn forgiveness, learn to be loving, to be compassionate,  to be bold as a lion, to be meek, to be kind, to be assertive, to be firm, to stand for the truth, to be faithful unto death….to always say Lord not my will but thine be done. Learning at the School of Christ should never stop whether you are 5 or 95. Every single day I learn something new and it should go on for ever till I meet my Savior and am transformed into His image. Love this song:

“Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me, All His wonderful passion and purity,

O, Thou, Spirit divine, all my nature refine, Till the beauty of Jesus be seen in me

Let my wonderful Savior be seen in me, His amazing compassion and constancy

His great love is my goal, by His Spirit’s control, Till my wonderful Savior be seen in me

Let the fruit of the Spirit be seen in me, Grant me grace all sufficient that I may be

True and faithful each day, every step of the way, Pointing souls to the Savior on Calvary”
