Walk of Life- day 9, October 2020, Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs
Wisdom……..has set up her seven pillars. Proverbs 9:1
There are great men who have done a massive research in the concept of seven pillars. Lawrence of Arabia, a renowned war time writer has written a book entitled “Seven Pillars Of Wisdom”. It was to be a scholarly work about the seven greatest cities of the Middle East: Cairo, Smyrna, Constantinople, Beirut, Aleppo, Damascus, and Medina but later on the concept has changed. He was influenced to have this title based on “Seven Lamps of Architecture” written by John Ruskin.
Robert Graves, a renowned war poet wrote a review for the book “Seven Pillars of Wisdom” equating wisdom to freedom. Alright, this is all literature.
Seven is a number used for perfection. Seven days of the week, seven colours, seven music notations, seven trees, Seven wonders of the world, Seven continents, Seven visible stellar objects, seven sins, seven seas, Seven stages, seven dwarfs and many as such. But here in this verse seven pillars of wisdom. What are those seven pillars of wisdom? If anyone wishes to comment on that please go forward to use the comment section.
Let us meditate on the Seven ways of acquiring wisdom from God.
1. Ask wisdom from God:-
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” – James 1:5
Accepting the fact that we lack wisdom we have to ask our Lord faithfully to fill us with His wisdom as God’s wisdom alone can make a person wise.
2. Be a God-Fearing Person:-
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments: his praise endureth forever.” – Psalm 111:10
When we have the fear in God, we follow His teachings and obey His commands and we will stay away from committing sins as it displeases Him.
3. Be Humble:-
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. James 3:13
Humility will help us overcome envy and selfish ambition that lead to wicked practices. So let us choose humility and wisdom and not foolishness and wickedness.
4. Be Prudent:-
“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.” – Proverbs 8:12
More the wisdom receive, more the intention to give judgements proceeds. We shouldn’t be hasty in making decisions. By expanding the knowledge and knowing better we will be able to give better judgements.
5. Be peaceful and considerate:-
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” – James 3;17
Always observe awareness and practice peacefulness. The word of God insists us to be slow to speak, swift to hear and slow to wrath for the wrath of man will not produce the righteousness of God.
6. Read the Word of God and meditate it profoundly:-
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” – 2 Timothy 3:15
Carefully read the word of God as more we understand His word we become wiser than the enemies, teachers and the elderly people.
7. Preach and practice the words of God:-
“let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”- Colossians 3:16
We must be the manifestation of God’s wisdom. We must make ourselves the substantial evidence of kindness, compassion, self-discipline and love. Let the people around us realize the wisdom of God, which is Christ within us.
May our Lord fill us with His Wisdom.
