Walk of Life – October 2021 – Day 12 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs – OPT TO

Opt to Guard your Thoughts

The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit. Proverbs 12:5

Right thoughts…how do we make them a part and parcel of our lives. When you meet someone, you judge them by how they speak and how they appear but you have no clue about what they are thinking. However, the Lord does not see the outward appearance, He looks at our hearts. He knows every single thought that I think in my mind…it can be both scary and comforting depending on what you are thinking each day.

Twenty-four hours a day, there is a battle raging…which is a mind battle and it is vicious. It is unrelenting, unfair, and intense mainly because the devil is not fair and your mind is your most important asset. We all struggle with our thought life…I want to think well, but all kinds of negative thoughts float in. I want to think loving, caring, and compassionate thoughts but all the hurt and pain comes flooding in. The reason we fail in controlling our thoughts is the thought that eventually no one will know but remember it is your thoughts that makes you the person you are.

The Bible has a remedy in 2 Cor 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”

Bring every thought to the obedience of Christ…then we will think right. How do we do that? here are simple principles to bring every thought subject to Christ are:

All that you think is not true. Satan is a liar and he keeps bringing evil and wicked thoughts to our mind. Just because it comes from within, it is not right. According to the Word of God, we were all born in sin and our minds are confused, anxious,  depraved, troubled, sinful, and dull. We keep telling ourselves a lot of things that are not true. Unless we come to the cross and confess our sins and be renewed in our minds, we cannot think right.

Guard your minds from garbage. We are all acquainted with the computer. If you feed in incorrect data, the results will also be incorrect. It is very important to guard our hearts. So it is very important to feed your mind on the right things. These are those which will make you more godly and spiritual. Some may be lawful but are not absolutely necessary so keep away. Guard your eyes so that your thoughts will be pure. We need to be so filled with the Word of God so our hearts are pure and our thoughts are right. the Lord does not only expect faithfulness but also fruitfulness. Our lives should be so filled with the Word of God so we bring forth much fruit for Him. In Philippians 4: 6 to 8 Paul tells us how to guard our minds. The first key is to pray for everything. It is not a one-time conversation but a continuous conversation. We must learn to continually talk to God even while doing something. Do not worry just keep telling the Lord everything. Next train the mind to think good things. Next we should fix our minds on good things. So if there is something bad that you are thinking of…refocus and replace. Stop thinking of it and think of something good do not think…I should not think of that.

Finally keep learning. read good Christian books though the Bible should be the foremost. It is good to learn from great authors and develop one’s knowledge about the things of the Lord. Keep thinking about how to please the Savior and doing the right thing in obedience to His Word.
