Understanding the True Meaning of Christmas for Little Hearts – Day 2

Understanding the True Meaning of Christmas for Little Hearts – Day 2

Bible Reading: Genesis 3

Memory verse:

Romans 6: 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 3:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sin Enters the World

It was a beautiful day…Eve was looking around in the garden when a serpent starts talking to her. We all know the story. She disobeys God’s commandment and eats the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and she also gives Adam to eat. The serpent is none other than Satan who deceived Eve.

Now let us understand what happened here. God is holy, pure, and He is absolutely supreme. However, the devil deceives Adam and Eve and SIN enters this world.

What is sin?

Sin is not doing what God wants you to do or having your own way. Sin is disobeying God’s commandments in the Bible. Sin is not thinking right, not speaking right, and not doing the right things. You know what is right and wrong by reading the Word of God. You cannot stop sinning on your own. Because the memory verse says “All have sinned.” Your teacher, your parents, your friends, your pastor, every single person has sinned…there is no exception whatsoever. Sin is an attitude of the heart. You do bad things because you were born in sin. A heart that is sinful cannot be in a relationship with God. So God provided a solution, which we will see tomorrow.

Let us do a craft to understand more what sin is all about.

Write sins like lying, disobedience, dishonesty, selfishness, bad thoughts, bad language, jealousy, laziness, anger, hatred, and so on small strips of paper. Create a heart pocket with simple origami techniques as detailed below. Then insert these strips of paper in the heart. Also while explaining the story to a friend you can remove these strips of paper and say that when Jesus comes in we have the fruit of the Spirit and you can add those strips of paper inside. You can share the Gospel with a close friend.

Step 1: Fold construction paper in half

Step 2: Cut a half circle on top

Step 3: Open paper up and fold the bottom half up stopping half way between the top of the cuts where the cutting stopped.

Step 4: Fold the bottom 2 corners up until they meet the center crease.

Step 5: Hold the bottom two corners and grasp the flap above them

Step 6: Fold the top flap and staple on right and left sides

Step 6: Prepare the paper strips and insert inside the pocket.

Step 7: You can write “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” on the pocket.

Your final craft will look similar to this:

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for teaching me what sin is. Help me to understand that I am a sinner and I need the Lord Jesus to cleanse me of my sins.
