Joseph – The Earthly Father of the Lord Jesus
Yesterday we saw how God chose Mary to be the mother of the Lord Jesus and how she submitted to His will in her life. Another important person in this story is the earthly father of Jesus, that is, Joseph. The Bible records he was a righteous man. A righteous person is one who does what is right according to the Word of God. He was one who was close to God and heard the voice of God speak to him. When he thought of quietly putting away Mary, an angel appeared to him and told him not to. He obeyed God no matter what. For 30 years, Joseph and Mary took care of Jesus before he began his public ministry. God chose Joseph to take care of His own son! What a great responsibility! God trusted Joseph and Joseph lived a life of righteousness and integrity. Joseph took the boy Jesus to Egypt and also to Nazareth to protect him from the wicked king. He faithfully fulfilled the duty that God had given him.
We need to do what is right and what is written in the Word of God. It should not matter what people may think about us. Stand up for what is correct and true…no matter what.
Try this crossword puzzle on what the Lord told Joseph:
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to do what is right always. Help me not to be afraid of what others will say but to only obey what is written in Your Word. Help me like Joseph to listen to your voice and walk according to Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
